Tumblr’s getting a dashboard redesign today, which will allow people to post straight from the dashboard rather than a separate interface. You know, like Twitter. ”Now you’re making posts the same way you’re reading them,” the company says. Thoughts?

oh dear

Oh hell
I hope nobody was planning on posting anything with the broken mess Tumblr is inevitably about to become

i don’t see why this is an issue?

It existing isn’t inherently an issue, the fact that it’s Tumblr doing it is
Like, literally nothing they’ve implemented has worked properly and now that I’ve got this update it includes this one! It’s broken half of my missing e features that should already be a standard part of the Tumblr experience to begin with, hides the source link in a corner where nobody will bother looking for it and if you don’t double space after formatting your text, the space vanishes completely. None of these issues should have made it past testing!
Not only that, but they are working on a feature that essentially does nothing but make the Dashboard look nicer instead of doing actually important things like making Tumblr Saviour an integrated part of their site so that people don’t need to install a third party application to block tags (that doesn’t always work), fix their search system so that you can browse multiple tags at a time, make ignoring a user actually do something significant (it barely does anything at all at present) and implement most of the quality of life features that their users have added for them into the base experience instead of doing their best to stop people from using their site in a way that makes it work better
Reblogging yourself isn’t a standard feature! You can’t reply to replies without jumping through hoops! There is no outbox of saved sent messages, and you can’t reply to replies to your own messages without making a new message!
I love Tumblr but the development staff really don’t know what they are doing

Sometimes I honestly think the Tumblr staff don’t even like Tumblr and that’s why they spend all their time making useless god damn updates that do nothing to better your blogging experience

uhm, signal boost

And you guys are still here, why?
Every time I see and hear about a dashboard change, and it goes through, it seems like people who’ve complained about them are still here instead of elsewhere.
What gives? I get people aren’t going to like change. That’s normal. But this? Please.
Just ride the change out, and if you don’t like it later, fine.
If you’re still upset about the missing e and Tumblr Savior issues - and I can see why, as I use both add-ons myself, then do keep on giving voice to those complaints.
But to bitch about a change just because it is new, and because it is change, and then to stay on Tumblr afterwards and not give a shit?
Who knows? You might find you even like the new system after you’ve quit griping about it.

I think you’re missing the point.
People are complaining because this new feature isn’t much of an improvement, does nothing to fix preexisting issues, and creates new issues. I don’t see anyone here complaining simply because they’re adding a new feature. They’re complaining because of the problems it will/does create, and because Tumblr could have spent time trying to improve the site rather than adding a pointless new feature.
It’s not phobia of change you’re seeing here. It’s people worried that this is only going to create more problems.

OK. That is IT.

I have Tumblr saviored the ever-living shit out of the Social Justice movement for my blog.

Would you guys like to know why?

On one level I agree — we definitely need to be more proactive and actually do shit instead of just reblogging shit — but I think it’s important that people understand how big these issues are, because there are a lot of people out there who don’t realize that.

Hell, a year ago I don’t think I even considered myself a feminist, because I didn’t realize how unfairly women can be treated, and in some cases didn’t even recognize when I myself was being treated poorly for having two X chromosomes. This stuff is so pervasive that I didn’t think about it; I just thought it was “normal” for women to be expected to fill certain roles in society and to behave in certain ways. I’m really fucking glad I saw stuff online that convinced me differently.

We need to take action, but taking action and spreading awareness aren’t mutually exclusive goals. In fact, spreading awareness is a big part of getting people to take action. I agree that we need to put more emphasis on actually doing things to bring about change, but I don’t think spreading the word is pointless. It sure helped me.

If anyone wants to use this as a GLaDOS reaction pic, I’m cool with that. XD;;
It’s from listening to Poptart’s livestream of Portal 2, and the snarky insults GLaDOS throws around in one test chamber.
Ugh on second thought that looks sort of terrible. Lemme fix it.

XD Yes she would have done this..many many many times during the night last night hahah

Ooh, I love this.

Chromed Musings: I wonder...

…if anyone is going to release any GLaDOS merch for Christmas?

I saw the new USB turret, and being the GLaDOS fangirl that I am, I suddenly turned around and wondered “Okay, is there anything GLaDOS-themed this year?”

I get her design’s pretty complex. I get it’s also hard at times to cute-ify a…

I’d like some GLaDOS merch too, but you’re right — she’s got a pretty complex design, and it’s hard to do something like that as a plushie/keychain/whatever. BUT STILL.
